SMOKEY, the world’s loudest purring cat, from Pitsford, ‘signed’ copies of the Guinness Book of World Records for customers at Waterstones in Northampton.

The cat, whose 67.7 decibel purr was ratified as a record earlier this year, was taken by owner Ruth Adams to the Abington Street store on Saturday to paw stamp bookmarks and copies of the book.

Store manager Emma Mileham said: “I wouldn’t say she was a diva but she did have her own carry-cot and we also had a brush to keep her looking good. That doesn’t normally happen at a signing.”

Saturday may not be the last ‘signing’ Smokey carries out as Mrs Adams has started writing a life story of Smokey from the cat’s perspective.
