There is a chance to see behind the scenes at the restoration of Delapre Abbey in Northampton this weekend.
Delapre Abbey will be opening its gates to the public on September 12 and 13 from 10am to 4pm as part of the national Heritage Open Days event.
Visitors will be able to undertake a short tour of the restoration and see progress on the £6.3 million project so far as well as meet some of the heritage craftsmen currently working on site. There will be displays and information about the works and the plans for the future of the Abbey and some children’s activities too.
Members of the Borough Council, Delapre Abbey Preservation Trust and the main contractors Robert Woodhead Ltd. will also be around to answer any questions about the project.
People wishing to undertake a tour should be aware that due to the nature of the site that access is limited and that sensible footwear should be worn. Hard hats and Hi-Vis jackets will be provided. There is no need to book for tours. More information about the restoration can be found on the website www.delapreabbey.org
