A Northampton optometrist has appealed for talented graffiti and spray can artists to help create a new centrepiece for an outbuilding destroyed in an apparent arson attack.
The garage, used as a storage space by TK&S Optometrists in Kingsley Road, Northampton, was badly damaged in the fire and subsequent investigations have revealed the blaze was started deliberately by vandals.
Demolition work is now underway and plans are being drawn up to put the building back into use as part of the award-winning practice.
Owner Brian Tompkins said: “Thankfully the main practice building escaped any damage but the garage itself was badly hit. We have made it safe and are now looking at ways we can make better use of the space in the future.
“There is a timber board being used to support the frame at the moment and we’d like to make it a focal point of both the current structure and any future development. I’d love to involve a local artist in creating a bespoke piece of artwork.
“The building has a lot of history and that’s something we want to celebrate, along with our work as one of the most pioneering practices in the country.”
The garage is at the back of the TK&S car park, off Oliver Street. Artists would be required to paint a 6ft by 4ft piece of wood currently being used to support the building, incorporating the theme of eyecare.
