A number of dates have been revealed on which Mereway in Northampton will be closed as roadworks continue on the new junction to Wootton Hall Park.

The £2.7million Northamptonshire County Council scheme is intended to help the flow of traffic around the town’s ring-road and to the police HQ site, which is set to become a school.

The council said today that weekend lane restrictions and closures that were scheduled for Friday. January 29 to Monday, February 1 will now take place the following weekend, February 5 to February 8.

Details of those are as follows:

-Friday, February 5 (8pm) to Sunday, February 7 (6pm) – westbound carriageway fully closed; eastbound carriageway restricted to one lane.

-Sunday, February 7 (6pm) to Monday, February 8 (6am) – full closure of both carriageways.

-From 6am on Monday, February 8 both carriageways will be open with a 20mph limit in place.

Additionally, throughout the works until April there will be off-peak lane closures between Mondays and Fridays (9.30am and 3.30pm).

These will be introduced depending on requirements, with a 20mph speed limit in place during these times.

Finally, in early April a full road closure will be in place for the final road surfacing and reinstating of road markings. This is set to take place at a weekend, with the exact date still to be confirmed.

After the resurfacing work is completed, work will continue under traffic management until the scheduled completion date in May.

A spokesman for the council said: “As ever with Highways works, dates could change dependent on weather conditions.”
