A retirement village community which was forced to replace its hanging baskets after they were stolen has received a helping hand from a shopping centre after having a new hosepipe donated and fitted.

Residents at the St Crispin Retirement Village in Duston have been named previous Northampton in Bloom winners for their prized hanging baskets.

However, a number were stolen earlier this year.

Karen Warren, centre adminstrator at Weston Favell Shopping Centre, heard about the thefts and wanted to help out. However, hard-working volunteers at the retirement village had already replaced the baskets.

Instead, Ashley Mallett from the centre’s security team, visited the retirement village to deliver a brand new, 40m Hozelock pipe and help put it in place. Ashley said “Why anyone would steal from them is beyond me but I’m happy that everything is back in place.”
