In July, the South Northamptonshire Council approved the details for 246 homes to be built by Bloor Homes South Midlands, and this week the go-ahead was given for further 201 homes to be built concurrently by Permission Homes.

Outline proposals to build 2,750 houseswere first put forward in 2007, but were not progressed until SNC re-assumed control of the application from the West Northants Development Corporation in mid-2012. And after one major revision after concerns about the quality of the development, it was finally approved in early 2015.

Councillor Roger Clarke, SNC’s portfolio holder for planning and environment, said: “There are some big changes in store for Towcester and we have worked hard to ensure the town benefits from those changes where every possible.

“This second phase of homes will begin as soon as the new roundabout in front of the Racecourse main entrance is complete and people should be prepared to see more construction traffic in the area."

This phase of the development comprises a variety of one, two, three and four bedroom homes, 22 of which will be affordable, and there are two areas of public open space, one of which includes an area with play equipment.
