Reports of man carrying '˜sword' around Northamptonshire village

Police were called to a Northamptonshire town this afternoon after reports of a man carrying a 'sword.'

The force helicopter was scrambled to Irthlingborough after 999 calls were made describing a man walking the streets holding a large bladed item, one Twitter user described as a “sword.”

Members of the public have taken to social media to say police cars could be seen on Victoria Street and Drayton Road, around 4pm. Police also attended Irthlingborough junior School it is understood.

Though Northamptonshire Police says nothing was found, officers have remained in the area.

The twitter account for the force chopper based at Husbands Bosworth, tweeted; “Assisting @NorthantsPolice following a suspicious incident in Irthlingborough. Nothing seen from the sky. Enquiries ongoing.”
