A post office in Northampton has been officially re-opened following a major refurbishment.
Conservative MP for Northampton North, Michael Ellis, cut the ribbon at the Kingsley Park Post Office on Friday to celebrate the re-opening of the store.
The inside of the branch has been completely refurbished as part of the Post Office’s commitment to upgrading all its premises.
The official opening acted as a double celebration as the branch’s Subpostmaster, Tarsem Rela, was presented with an award for 40 years service to the Post Office.
Mr Rela, 74, said: “The branch now looks modern, light and bright and airy.
“We have brought the branch into the 21st century. Customers love the changes. I hope they will also like the changes we are making to the retail side of the store – we are developing our range of cards and stationery.
“I am delighted to have achieved my long service award. Life was really busy in London so my wife Kusam Lata and I decided we wanted to move somewhere quieter and close to friends and we took on Kingsley Park Post Office.
“We now know so many people in the area – it is great. We have made changes over the years, including extending the branch, but this is the best that the branch has looked.”
Michael Ellis MP said: “I welcomed the news that Kingsley Park Post Office was to be modernised to create a bright modern open-plan branch and am delighted to be here today to congratulate Tarsem Rela on his incredible long service and dedication to the community and for the modernisation of the branch.
“I’m sure the new improved office, and extended opening hours, will be warmly welcomed by all of my constituents.”
The new post office will now open from 9am until 5.30pm Monday to Saturday, staying open an extra five hours every Saturday afternoon.
