Burglars broke into an upstairs office at Sixfields Stadium in Northampton but fled empty-handed after tripping an alarm.

Police have confirmed there was a break-in at the Northampton Town Football Club ground at about 12.40am on Monday morning.

A wooden security door to an upstairs office area was forced open, however nothing was taken from inside.

Communications officer for the Cobblers, Gareth Willsher, said: “There was an attempted break-in. Although alarms were triggered and nothing was stolen.”

Police are appealing for witnesses to the break-in as there may have been late night cinema-goers in the area at the time, who may have seen people acting suspiciously around the stadium.
