Political campaigner Peter Tatchell will be giving a talk at the Guildhall in Northampton on Friday night as part of event organised by the town’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.
Mr Tatchell, who has an international reputation for championing human rights issues, will be the key speaker at an “In Conversation With...” event which starts at 6.30pm.
Mr Tatchell said: “I am delighted to be speaking in Northampton. The lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community makes a huge, positive contribution to the town; enriching its cultural diversity.
“It is important to keep campaigning for LGBT dignity, respect, acceptance and human rights - in Northampton and across the UK - to end gay-bashing violence and homophobic bullying in schools.
“The battle for marriage equality is won in the UK but worldwide 83 countries still criminalise homosexuality. We are still striving for LGBT equality worldwide. Queer freedom is an unstoppable global trend. Don’t accept homophobia. Dream of a world without the persecution of LGBT people. Help us make homophobia history.”
The event is free and there will be an opportunity to ask questions.
