A fire investigation has been launched after a blaze at the rear of a Co-op store in Northampton last night.

Firefighters were called to the mini supermarket in Bushlands Road, Headlands, at 9.36pm last night (July 20) after reports of flames spreading from a pile of refuse at the rear of the store towards the wooden door of an outbuilding.

Two engines from Moulton attended the scene and nine firefighters managed to get the blaze under control using water hoses by 10pm.

A spokesperson for Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue said a fire investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the blaze.

Northamptonshire Police has been informed of the incident and is helping the fire service with the investigation.
