Northamptonshire Police needs a headquarters in Northampton but it doesn’t neccessarily have to be on the current Wootton Hall site, the outgoing chief constable has said.
Adrian Lee, who has been in charge of the force since October 2009, said: “The commissioner’s view is in due course we will get off this site.
“The estate can undoubtedly be smaller as we are more agile in the way we work and clearly fewer people work for the organisation as a whole.
“If we can invest in the rest of the estate and come off the site that will be a more efficient way of doing things and we just have to be more efficient in order to protect front-line services.
“I’m not precious about a headquarters building as long as the accommodation is better than what I inherited and we have made some progress in that with the new Criminal Justice Centre and the northern headquarters in Kettering. If we’ve got a northern headquarters we need to have something linked to Northampton.”
The Wootton Hall site is the favoured location for a new school, which could open in September 2016.
