A crew of firefighters from Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service put a range of skills to the test to haul a cow out of deep mud.

The animal had become trapped in Queens Avenue, Newport Pagnell yesterday afternoon and five firefighters from Northamptonshire were called out to assist Buckinghamshire colleagues.

A fire service spokeswoman said: “The call originally said the cow was stuck in a river but it actually turned out to be a bog.

“It needed help from us because it had become exhausted trying to struggle out by itself.”

The animal was successfully rescued at about 5pm.
