Hundreds of runners took over the town centre for the annual Northampton Half Marathon and 5k run.

The race started in the town centre on Sunday morning before heading off to the surrounding countryside before finishing at Delapre Abbey.

The winner of the men’s half marathon race was David Green, from Northampton Road Runners, with a time of 1hr 14mins 50secs. He was followed by James Stringer, from Wootton Road Runners, with a time of 1hr 16mins, while Stephen Marks, of Rugby and Northampton AC, came third with a time of 1hr 16min 15secs.

The fastet woman was Sarah Davis-Foxon, from Desborough & Rothwell RC, in the female vet 40+ class, with a time of 1hr 27min 28secs, followed by Jasmine Lowdon, from Go Beyond, in the women’s class, with a time of 1hr 27mins 37secs.

Writing on Facebook, organisers thanked all those who took part.

“Thank you to everyone that competed in the Half Marathon and 5k this morning we were truly blessed with some fantastic weather.

“A huge thank you to everyone that helped at the drinks stations, the marshal points and the finish areas. Many of the crew were multi tasking and without you all the event wouldn’t have been possible.

“Thank also to Chevron for the road management even with some mindless motorists moving their good work and Stagecoach for re routing services while we circumnavigated the town,” the spokesperson added.
