Northants and England cricketing legend honoured on day of funeral as street lined with mourners
Around 100 people turned out to pay tribute to former Northants and England all-rounder, David Capel, on the day of his funeral.
Due to current coronavirus restrictions, only 30 close friends and family were able to attend the funeral at St Michael & All Angels Church in Bugbrooke.

Hide AdBut the Capel family invited members of the public, other friends and former teammates to a street on the route that the funeral procession took.
Mourners were asked to bring a cricket bat and raise it for a guard of honour as the procession passed by.
Around 100 people obliged, lined Badgers Close and raised a bat to Capel.
Among others, former England captain Mike Gatting, Northants chairman Gavin Warren, Northants chief executive Ray Payne turned out to pay their respects.

Hide AdCurrent Northants players have also paid tribute to Capel as a minute's silence was held at the T20 game against Glamorgan at Edgbaston shortly after he died, and again against Gloucestershire at the County Ground on Friday (September 11).
Capel died at home on September 2 at the age of 57 after being diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2018.
During his cricketing career, Capel started out playing grass roots cricket at Roade.
He then moved on to represent Northants - a club he stayed loyal to throughout his career - and received his first international call up in 1987.Capel had an impressive record recording more than 10,000 runs and 467 wickets in his 270 first-class caps for Northants.

Hide AdOnce he hung up his spikes in 1998, Capel's love and dedication to Northants did not end, as he moved into coaching, first with the club's young players and then as head coach between the years 2006 to 2012.
The Capel family has been made aware that a lot of people were keen to contribute flowers to the funeral, however would instead encourage members of the public to donate to the 'The Brain Tumour Charity.’
