A Northampton pub popular for its live music is to shut its doors next month.
The Penny Whistle in Abington Square will close on after end of business on Sunday, September 7.
Its owners, Scream Pubs, thanked regulars for their support and patronage on social media.
Their message read: “It is all because of your dedication to and support of the Penny Whistle that has kept us and the spirit of what we provide alive.
“Thousands of memories; good and bad, have been made and dreams have both come true and been shattered within our hallowed walls.
“Yes, we will be closing. No, it won’t be happening just yet. Yes, we will have an incredible blow-out party and yes, you are all invited
“I’m sure we’ll all have a few drinks together to say goodbye and reminisce old times.”
Later it posted: “Don’t stop showing your support like you have over the Bank Holiday Weekend. You guys have been fantastic and as busy as it has been, there is no way we’d have had it any other way.”
Customers of the pub expressed their sadness on Facebook.
Marc Collins said: “Sad to hear, every time I’m in Northampton I pop in plus you gave some aspiring promoters a place to find their feet.”
And Tom Robinson said: “Worst news I have had in ages. Easily my most favourite pub in this town. Gutted.”
