WORK to bring peace and quiet to residents of ‘Insomnia Road’ in Northampton is due to start on Saturday.
Controversial rumble strips were installed in Gladstone Road as a traffic-calming measure in 2011. Residents, with the support of Northamptonshire County Councillor (Lab, Spencer) Gareth Eales, have been campaigning ever since to have them removed. They say the noise has been unbearable and keeps residents awake at night.
In March, the county council agreed to remove the rumble strips and work is due to start on Saturday and will take a week to complete.
The rumble strip will be replaced with a traditional asphalt material.
Gladstone Road will be closed to through traffic on Saturday and Sunday during the day with a diversion via Spencer Bridge Road, Harlestone Road and Mill Lane. The roads will be closed for the remaining five days between 6pm and 11pm.
Residents will be given access to their homes, but vehicle access will be limited when work is close to specific properties.
