A film student has been honoured with the inaugural “Errol Flynn Filmhouse Award for Achievement in Film and Screen Studies”.

Rebecca Merison, who graduated last month from the University of Northampton Film and Screen Studies, was selected for her outstanding effort, engagement and achievement during the three years of her course.

Dr David Simmons, senior lecturer in English and Screen Studies at The University of Northampton, said: “It’s a pleasure to be able to reward Becky’s outstanding performance during her three years at the University of Northampton.

"Becky has been one of our most committed and enthusiastic students, with a passion for film and screen studies that has seen her achieve a first class degree.”

Martin Sutherland, chief executive of the Errol Flynn Filmhouse, said: “We are delighted to be able to sponsor this award, as part of our ongoing commitment to supporting the next generation of film-makers in Northamptonshire.”

The award is sponsored by the Errol Flynn Filmhouse, who have donated a free 12-month cinema pass as a prize.
