Northamptonshire school appeal to public to pay '˜ransom' after staged kidnap of lollipop lady

Blisworth Community Primary School has filmed their prized crossing patrol officer Mrs Dunkley being taken away by crooks in a wheelbarrow.

Children will be shown the footage during assembly today and then handed copies of a ransom note asking for their parents to donate to get her back.

The stunt was the idea of PTA parent who wondered how best to show life without Mrs Dunkley, whose £3,000 per year pay has to be scraped together from several sources every year.

Headteacher Celia Irwin said: “We aren’t allowed to use our own funds as the must only be spent on education. The parish council put £1,000 towards it every year and we’ve had businesses sponsor her, but we are a bit short.”

The crossing patrol will be manned by adults today to ensure pupils can cross safely as normal.

The school hopes the general public will text donations to ensure Mrs Dunkley’s ‘safe return’.
