Sunday night saw Jamie Benkert’s X Factor journey come to an end after his performance of Ellie Goulding’s Love Me Like You Do failed to impress the judges.

The local 24-year-old health care assistant, who had been compared to Olly Murs throughout the competition, lost his place at the second stage of bootcamp.

Before the show aired, Jamie tweeted an apology and warning to his fans, he said: “Please forgive my shocking singing you’re about to witness, what came over me I don’t know!”

Following Sunday’s episode, Jamie took to his Facebook page to thank his supporters and let his fans know what happens behind the scenes of the popular TV show.

Jamie describes the long day before his performance, and hints that being an X Factor contestant may not be as glamorous as people may think.

He said: “The nerves were flying around for sure at boot camp! BUT trust me, it’s such a LONG day waiting to sing! Personally I was up from 7:30am to be ready to sing, hanged around ALL day, hardly ate or drank, sitting in an air conditioned room (crazy idea with a room full of singers) and I was number 44 so was half of the batch (90 acts) and was meant to go on at 9pm, then one act before going to sing told to go back in as a break was happening, an hour later back outside waiting in the rain and cold for 30mins, then get on the stage and it’s 11:30pm”

Jamie goes on to say that he is not using his experience as an excuse as to why he was voted out, but that he wished they had shown his full performance.
