The RNLI in Northampton has raised more than £8,800 with a series of collections.
Crews of local RNLI volunteers were at the Tesco stores in East Hunsbury and Weston Favell for the weekend of May 23 and 24, collecting donations of £1,489.03 for the lifeboat service.
Jeff Sutherland-Kay, chairman of the RNLI’s Northampton branch, said: “The collections were part of a national Tesco collection for the RNLI. The wonderful support we had from Tesco shoppers was added to collections that the Northampton RNLI branch arranged at 3 other Tesco stores to make a grand total of £5,338.
“It was a very busy weekend for us as we were also at the Crick Boat Show for three days where we raised a further £3,112.33 in subscriptions, donations and the sale of gifts and souvenirs. We even managed to find time to fit in a collection at Towcester Races. Our volunteers worked very hard indeed and it was an amazing result.”
