A 19-year-old footballer from Northampton who fractured an opposing player’s jaw after he attacked him at the end of a Sunday league match has been ordered to pay the victim £2,400 in compensation.

Frankie Belfon, of Kingsley Park Terrace, Northampton, was sentenced at Northampton Crown Court today (Wednesday) after he pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm.

The court heard that Belfon was sent off after he head-butted an opposition player during a match between Woodford United and Zedi United in Woodford Halse on December 7 last year.

At the end of the match, Belfon, who played for Northampton-based Zedi United, then punched another opposition player, causing him to suffer a fractured jaw.

Joey Kwong, prosecuting, said the victim had been left unable to eat properly six months after the attack and had to have a metal plate installed in his jaw.

Recorder Adrian Jack sentenced Belfon to 200 hours of unpaid work.
