Northampton School for Boys has been named the best state school for sports in England in a list published by a school sports magazine.
School Sports Magazine assesses schools’ performance in a range of competitions every year and publishes a list of the top performers every year.
The 2015 list shows NSB as the best state school for sport.
Jamie Wilcock, NSB director of sport, said, in the past 12 months, the school has reached national finals in cross country, athletics, basketball and team golf.
He said the under 15 football team also reached the national semi-final and the under 12 football team reached a national quarter final,
Mr Wilcock said: “The academic year in school sport is vibrant and goes far beyond inter-school competitive sport.
“There are currently 78 different sports clubs running every week through the winter terms either before school, at lunchtime or after school. “From ‘come and play’ clubs to top quality competitive sports coaching. This provision does not include the fixture card for rugby running every Saturday from September to February, nor the midweek games programme in all sports which operates above and beyond the training programmes.”
NSB was named Best State School for Sport in School Sport Magazine’s in 2013 and runner-up in 2014.
