Northampton’s Royal & Derngate theatre will be selling scenery and props this weekend as it begins to move its scenery stores to a new site.

People will be able to buy items used in shows throughout the theatre’s history on Saturday, June 27, between 11am-4pm, from the current stores at No. 34 Guildhall Road in the town centre.

Over the next few weeks the theatre will be moving its stores to a new warehouse to make way for the redevelopment of the old Vulcan Works site by Northampton Borough Council into a new creative and cultural industries hub.

The theatre stores re-uses and recycles many elements of scenery and furniture and loans out items to other theatres. For some years, 34 Guildhall Road has housed a wide selection of previous sets, large scenic items, practical lights, props, chairs, tables and other pieces of furniture.

As the stores get ready to move, the theatre’s stage management and production teams have been sorting through the collection of props and furniture to review what should be retained for future use and will be offering a selection of items leftover for sale to the public.

Visitors to the sale will have the opportunity to browse through the theatre’s excess furniture and household accessories, including vintage and period items, and hear a little about the part they have played in past productions.
