Waitrose customers dug deep and donated £1,768.

Jeff Sutherland-Kay, chair of the RNLI’s Northampton branch, said: “We are very grateful to Waitrose for allowing us to collect at the store and even more grateful to their customers for their wonderful generosity.

“Many stopped for a chat about how much they value the RNLI – one customer even reported that the RNLI had rescued his wife.”

Jeff continued: “RNLI Northampton branch is made up of volunteers and we receive no income or expenses for our fundraising work.

“This means that every penny from the Waitrose collection goes to the RNLI.”
