A Northampton MP working in London has been told to stay in the Houses of Parliament building after Commons Leader David Lidington said a “police officer has been stabbed” and the “alleged assailant was shot by armed police” following an incident within the building.
David Mackintosh (Northampton South) said that Parliament is still in lockdown and MPs are not allowed to disclose their current location.
However, he has said he will speak out when things have "calmed down."
Scotland Yard officers were called to a firearms incident on Westminster Bridge after reports that several people have been injured this afternoon, (Wednesday, March 22) but police are now treating the incident as a terrorist attack.
Parliament has been suspended and two people have been seen by witnesses lying within Old Palace Yard, directly outside Westminster Hall.
