Northampton is the ninth best town or city to work in the UK according to a new survey.
Glassdoor, a recruitment website, has identified the 20 best places in the country to work according to how easy it is to get a job, how affordable it is and how satisfied employees are working there.
Cambridge claimed the top spot, followed by Milton Keynes and Nottingham.
Northampton was rated ninth, ahead of Swindon, Manchester and Oxford but behind Peterborough (fifth) and Coventry (sixth). London is outside the top 20.
The data from Northampton showed employees had a median salary of £35,000, average home value of £226,661 and job satisfaction rating of 3.5 out of five.
Dr Andrew Chamberlain, Glassdoor chief economist said: “These results are a reminder that although there are more jobs in London and employees are generally pretty satisfied, it is a competitive place to work and an expensive place to live.
“Towns and cities such as Nottingham, Leeds and Reading offer decent salaries and job prospects combined with a lower cost of living which means your money will go further, you can save, and still and have a good quality of life.”
