A charity which helps families deal with the impact of cancer and a day centre for homeless and disadvantaged people have been given a helping hand by a housing developer.

Persimmon Homes Midlands selected the Leon Barwell Foundation and the Northampton Hope Centre to each receive £1,000 through the Community Champions initiative.

The funding scheme supports charities and good causes with a pot of £24,000 of match-funding. Organisations can apply via www.persimmonhomes.com/charity.

The Leon Barwell Foundation, established in memory of the former Northampton Saints chairman and businessman, supports families affected by cancer by helping them create everlasting memories.

Northampton Hope Centre supports 120 homeless or disadvantaged people every day, providing essential services including meals, showers and donated clothing, as well as programmes to enable service users to re-integrate into society.
