A planning application for the expansion of Cosworth’s Northampton factory has been submitted.
The plan is to expand the existing site and increase engine assembly and manufacturing capacity, and falls within the town’s Enterprise Zone.
The proposals includes details of a 38,000sq ft facility, located on the southern part of St James Mill Road joining Cosworth’s existing site. If approved, construction of the new facility is expected to be completed by August this year. Cosworth CEO Hal Reisiger said that momentum was building on the factory programme. “Since our announcement last year of our intention to build a new factory, we have had support locally and nationally. Cosworth has been a part of the Northampton community and landscape for 50 years. Our application for permission to build demonstrates our continuing commitment to securing jobs and investment in the town.”
Councillor David Mackintosh, Leader of Northampton Borough Council said: “Cosworth is a world leading brand, and an important part of our Enterprise Zone. We are playing a part in supporting their ambitions to further strengthen the high-performance technology sector locally, and that will create jobs and see more investment in Northampton.
“This is another exciting Northampton Alive project that is supporting businesses in our town to grow and build on their success.”
