A 19-year-old man from Northampton who broke into a house and threatened a woman with a spanner has been given a four-and-a-half year custodial sentence.

Ryan Curran, of St Matthews Parade, Abington, appeared at Northampton Crown Court after he pleaded guilty to a charge of aggravated burglary.

The court heard that Curran broke into a house in Northampton at 5.45am and threatened a female occupant with a spanner. The woman managed to get out of the house and was not injured by Curran.

Recorder Christopher Tickle, sentencing, said it was “terrible incident” influenced by excessive drinking.

Recorder Tickle sentenced Curran to four-and-half-years in a young offender institution. He is likely to spend half in custody before being released on licence.
