The Guildhall took on a new guise when the leader of Northampton Borough Council turned it into his own dance studio.

Councillor David Mackintosh held a charity dance workshop at the council offices in the town centre on Friday lunch-time, to raise funds for the Chron and Macmillan’s appeal.

Councillor Mackintosh is one of sixteen celebrity contestants who will take part in this year’s Strictly Northampton dance competition, which will support the Chronicle & Echo and Macmillan Cancer Support’s appeal to raise £1.55 million for a new blood cancer unit at Northampton General Hospital.

The dance event raised funds for the appeal and Councillor Mackintosh will dance in the contest at the Royal & Derngate on Saturday, November 24.

He said: ““I’m really looking forward to taking part as it always looks like good fun and I’ve never danced before, so it’s a good way of trying something different.”

For tickets call Northampton 624811.
