A lifelong Northampton Saints fanatic is set for her dream wedding today – in the stands of Franklin’s Gardens.
At 4pm research associate Sarah Denton and her boyfriend of ten years Daniel Charman are due to become the first couple to tie the knot at the Weedon Road ground after the club recently acquired a wedding licence.
The happy couple, who got engaged on the steps of Times Square, New York, in November, will hold a ceremony in front of family and friends at the Burrda stand before a reception at suite at the ground.
Sarah, 30, who has been a season ticket holder at the ground for ten years even though she has recently moved from Northampton to Newcastle, said she was the driving force in the decision.
“It feels amazing.
“Franklin’s Gardens has just got a special place in my heart.
“I’ve ben supporting them over half my life and this is just something really different for a wedding I’m really looking forward to it.”
Sarah said she first became hooked on the Saints when her grandfather took her to a match when she was 16.
Her all time favourite player is World Cup winner and Strictly Come Dancing contestant Ben Cohen, but her favourite in the current squad is Ben Foden.
When the couple got engaged they first looked into holding the reception at the Saints ground.
When they discovered ground management had managed to get a wedding licence, the couple grabbed the opportunity to hold the ceremony there as well.
Whereas 28-year-old Dan, an IT salesman, admits he is more of a football man, the nearlywed could not pass up the opportunity to marry at one of the top rugby venues in the country.
“We knew we didn’t really want a church wedding, we didn’t want the traditional stuff, we wanted something a bit different.
“I’m really excited because the Saints are such a big premiership team.”
Business development executive at Franklin’s Gardens Kim Mundy, says there has already been plenty of interest from people wanting to hold their weddings there.
She said: “You’ve got to be a big Saints fan to get married here but that’s exactly what Sarah is.
“We are really pushing or weddings at the moment, the receptions here have been so successful, we just wanted to expand that to be able to hold the whole day here.”
