Two new trustees have joined the board of Cynthia Spencer Hospice in Northampton, the charity has revealed.
Michelle Myers, from Northampton, is an experienced fundraiser having worked with two national charities and says she is keen to lend her enthusiasm and knowledge of income generation to a charity that means a great deal to her:
“My mum passed away at Cynthia Spencer Hospice earlier this year and I cannot praise the work of the staff and nurses enough. They treated my mum beautifully in her last few days. I have a huge respect for the people who work every day dealing with the heartbreak of families losing their loved ones. They work with such graceful compassion and dignity for patients and their families.
“For this reason when the opportunity to become a Trustee was advertised I thought I could use my fundraising experience to help ensure they can continue to do the fantastic work they do on a daily basis because it is reassuring to know that such a kind place exists when you need them the most.”
Claire Taylor, also from Northampton, is a solicitor who practices commercial property law and has extensive experience gained within both the public and private sectors. Like Michelle, Claire has a very personal connection to the hospice which is a big part of her wish to join the trustees in growing the charity:
“My reasons for wanting to become a trustee were to “give back” to Cynthia Spencer Hospice, in whatever way I could, for the outstanding treatment and care that was given to my best friend in 2011 and my father in 2015.
“The kind way that we as family members and friends were treated was incredible too. The staff were so caring and showed much love and empathy in the support they gave us at such a difficult time.
"I hope that by working with the trustees of the charity I can make a contribution towards ensuring that the service continues and is able to grow so the Hospice can help more people who are in need.”
Charity director, Alison Gee, said: “We’re very pleased to have Michelle and Claire on board. Their experience, enthusiasm and drive will blend in well with our existing Trustees and together with our fundraising team we can continue to build on the generosity and goodwill our community shows towards Cynthia Spencer.
"Every year we have to raise in excess of £1,000,000 to keep our current services going and as echoed in both Claire’s and Michelle’s words, these services are so important to the people of South Northamptonshire.
"Our ambition is to expand on our current community services so we can support as many people as possible, at whatever stage of need they may be. The first major step we are taking is the expansion of our Day Hospice services which we will be launching in Spring 2017. We are also working hard to increase the number of nurses available to care for and support people in need in their own homes.”
