A planning application has been submitted to Northampton Borough Council to renovate and extend the local authority’s former Safer Stronger Northampton Partnership building in Fish Street.

The Community Safety Partnership moved out of the building in November 2013.

The plans include constructing a new restaurant, hot food takeaway, retail unit as well as 24 new ‘student units’ and three ‘self contained’ living units. The proposal also includes the construction of a canopy and the introduction of an outdoor seating area.

A public consultation on the plans runs until September 15. A decision on the plans will be made after this date.

A spokesman for Northampton Borough Council said the Fish Street building is about to be sold, subject to planning permission as it is “surplus to requirements”.
