A group of musicians from Northampton have won a competition to create a new ‘Northamptonshire song’.

Andy Johnson and Ant Ravenwood, who perform as Two of a Kind (2OAK), entered a contest organised by BBC Northampton as part of the celebrations for the recent Northamptonshire day.

Their song, called In The Middle Of It All, was chosen as the winner after the songs were performed at Brixworth Country Park on Sunday.

Mr Johnson, who has lived in Northampton all his life, said: “The lyrics were inspired by Northampton and the county.

“We are in the middle of the country and have counties on each border. We sing about the lovely countryside and the fact it is nice to come home to Northampton.”

The lyrics of the song were written by Martin Reeves and singer Lara Selmassi joined Mr Johnson and Mr Ravenwood on vocals.

Mr Johnson said: “I have been a musician for 27 years and we have performed the odd gig as a duo.

“When we entered we thought the standard would be quite high so it is really nice to have this success.”

The song has now been officially ‘adopted’ as the Northamptonshire song. To find out more about Two of a Kind go to the 2OAK Facebook page.
