Ninety-one percent of students at Moulton College achieved their vocational qualifications, it was revealed at an annual awards ceremony.

The results were six percent above the national average, according to principal Stephen Davies, who spoke at the event held last month to celebrate the achievements of students.

Mr Davies said: “The results secured by students is quite remarkable when judged against any criteria because Moulton doesn’t select its entrants upon prior performance, and this year we saw over 93 percent of students achieving their qualifications.

“The awards ceremonies held this week are the highlight of the year and it is right that we celebrate the success of our students in this way.”

He also revealed 90 percent of leavers have gone on to further studies or into employment.

“This is another great success and reflects one of the college’s core values which is to develop the employability of students to prepare them for the world of work,” he added.

Award-winners at the event were joined by college staff, parents, mayors, councillors, local employers and, most importantly, the students to celebrate their incredible hard work and to recognise outstanding contributions to courses and the college.

A spokesman for the college said: “Over the past 12 months Moulton College has used its capital investment to improve estate and facilities, one of which is the investment in new laboratories for bioscience and construction science, these much improved and up-to-date facilities will further enhance the student experience.

“They have been working in partnership with Northampton Borough Council, and the Rugby and Northampton Athletics Club to build a UK Athletics Standard Track and associated facilities, at the ceremony it was announced that the track is due to open in September; ready to welcome the athletics academy students.

Mr Davies added: “At Moulton College, young people and adults develop high standards of practical skills and a high proportion achieve their vocational qualifications; the majority progress into employment, further or higher education once they have completed their studies.

“The annual presentation of awards and certificates to students who successfully complete apprenticeships and vocational qualifications at award, certificate and diploma level is the culmination of all their hard work and endeavour, supported by the exceptional professionalism, commitment and enthusiasm of all staff and governors,” he said.
