Market Square fountain will remain switched on despite another foam prank

Northampton Borough Council has said another prank that saw the Market Square fountain spill over with foam will not see it shut off early.

A prankster added a detergent to the fountain on Monday evening, repeating the practical joke carried out several times in the last two years.

It could have seen the fountain shut off for days while the problem was fixed, but quick action by maintenance workers means it can operate until next week ahead of the annual winter shut-down.

A Northampton Borough Council spokeswoman said: “Foam was added to the market square fountain on Monday night so it was turned off.

“We intended to leave it off as this is the time when it is shut down for the winter, but we managed to get rid of the foam really quickly, so we will leave it on for a few more days before turning it off next week.”
