A man who died after he was involved in a collision with a lorry on the M1 near Northampton, has been named.

Liam Mealing, aged 24, of Normanton Place, Beeston, Leeds, died after he was struck by a lorry as he attempted to cross the northbound carriageway near junction 16 at 3.25am on December 2.

Police officers had been following the lorry Mr Mealing was travelling in prior to the collision after receiving reports that it was a stolen vehicle.

A Northamptonshire Police spokesman said a mandatory referral was made to the Independent Police Complaints Commission however, following an assessment of the incident, they have decided not to pursue an investigation into what happened.

A local investigation is taking place and a report is being prepared for HM Coroner.

A 20-year-old man from Leeds was arrested at the scene of the collision on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and remains on police bail pending further enquiries.
