Police officers helped negotiate a man to safety following an incident on a major road in Northampton last night.

Emergency services were called to the A45 Nene Valley Way at around about 6pm last night (Wednesday).

The road was immediately closed in both directions near the junction with Bedford Road, leaving drivers trapped for around an hour and a half.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: “Following concerns for the welfare of a man, officers earlier, attended Barnes Meadow Interchange and successfully negotiated man to safety.

“Officers will work with the man in terms of relevant care.”

The A45 was opened at around 7.30pm.

The spokesman added: “All roads are now open in Northampton but will be moving slowly.

“Thank you for your patience. Incident resolved and everyone safe and well.”
