A 26-year-old man has pleaded not guilty to the murder of a Northampton hairdresser.

The body of Ashley Gillard, who had worked at Hensmans in Abington Square, was found in his third floor flat in Wolverton, Milton Keynes after a fire had broken out in June last year.

Thomas White, of Bibury Close, Wellingborough, was charged with the murder of Mr Gillard between June 5 and June 9 last year

During an appearance at Luton Crown Court today White pleaded not guilty to the murder charge.

He also denied three offences of theft, two of taking a conveyance without authority, two offences of arson, fraud and possessing a controlled drug of Class B and possessing a controlled drug of Class C.

A trial was set for April this year, White was remanded in custody.
