A burglar from Northampton has claimed he was forced to make himself homeless because he was being accused of involvement in the murder of David Brickwood.
Kieron Taylor, aged 47, appeared at Northampton Crown Court on Friday after he pleaded guilty to a charge of burglary at a property in Brackley.
Matthew Kirk, mitigating, said his client, who had lived in the Spinney Hill area of town, had “made himself homeless” in order to protect his family who were being targeted by friends and family of Mr Brickwood, who was killed in his home on September 26 last year.
Mr Kirk said: “The family and friends of Mr Brickwood formed the view the defendant had some involvement in his death.
“It caused a lot of community tension and his family faced arson attacks and death threats.
“He made himself homeless in order to protect his family, and was living in his van.”
The court heard Taylor has been in custody, after being arrested for the burglary in July this year.
Taylor was sentenced to eight months in jail, suspended for two years. He must complete 150 hours unpaid work and a 30-day rehabilitation order.
