“This year’s target is a great achievement in light of the challenging economic conditions and despite Department for Education changes in the recording of NEET data.

“This is positive news for the county’s young people and crucial as we move towards Raising of the Participation age to 18 in 2015.”

Northamptonshire cabinet member for learning, skills and education, Matt Golby, said: “It’s fantastic to see we are achieving results in this crucial area across Northamptonshire.

“It is extremely important we continue to aspire to meet and exceed the target again by giving all of our 16-18 year olds every possible opportunity to succeed in education or the workplace.

“We’ve invested in some outstanding new education facilities around the county in recent years, including new further education college campuses in Northampton and Corby, two new academies in Kettering and our new University Technical Colleges in Daventry and Silverstone.”
