Worries over bid for 80 houses
Plans to build more than 80 new houses in Northampton could face opposition from councillors because of fears about the loss of trees on the development site.
Members of Northampton Borough Council's planning committee will next week discuss plans to build the new homes close to South Meadow Road, next to the St Crispin's development.
But in a report which will be seen by the councillors, council planning expert Andrew Holden said there were concerns about both the loss of trees on the farmland and the overall design of the proposed new estate.
He said: "The loss of mature trees and hedgerows next to the established bridleway in the south east corner of the site would adversely affect the setting of the bridleway to the detriment of its users.
"The proposed layout would also result in a poor residential environment in part of the development, specifically the view at the end of one of the main access points to the site.
"It is also not acceptable for the flat proposed within the development to form part of the provision of affordable housing, as this is not representative of the overall mix of housing."
Developers Taylor Wimpey have said they would like to build 31 three bedroom houses, 36 four bedroom homes, 15 two bedroom houses and a two bedroom flat on the site, which is currently farmland.
Members of the borough council planning committee will discuss the plans on Tuesday but a final decision on whether the development can go ahead will be made by the West Northamptonshire Development Corporation later in the year.
