World record attempt raises a few eyebrows
A beauty salon owner from Northamptonshire has set a new world record by waxing 100 people's eyebrows in three hours in aid of Children in Need.
Gemma Barrow, owner of the Beauty with Pure Indulgence salon in Wollaston, has become the first- ever person to shape so many eyebrows in such a short time – and got herself into the Guinness Book of World Records in the process.
She said: "I wanted to do something for Children in Need and I had the idea of doing eyebrow shaping. I wanted to set myself a real challenge so I looked to see if there was a world record and when I saw there wasn't one I decided I'd like to be the first to set one."
Gemma got in touch with 339-time world eating record holder Peter Dowdeswell, from Earls Barton, who agreed to adjudicate at the event, held at the salon yesterday.
Dozens of people were booked in advance, with Gemma waxing the eyebrows of people of all different ages and sexes during the day.
She said: "I had eight men turn up which I was grateful for. There is no set style for each person as each eyebrow is different. My hands are a bit tired now."
Each customer was charged 5 to have their eyebrows waxed, with at least half the money going to Children in Need.
Meanwhile, local firm Papa Luigi Pizzas has joined in the fundraising fun by making a Pudsey Pizza.
Owner Stef Malajny made the 24in Pudsey-shaped quatro stagioni topped with exotic fruit, vegetables and meats, ably assisted by his five-year-old son James.
Pudsey is made up of tomato and mozzarella, his fur is made of sweetcorn, his buttons are salami and olives, his bandana is onions and red peppers and his eye is a hard boiled egg.
Anyone wanting to sample a Pudsey pizza to help raise cash for Children in Need can call the shop in Abington Square on Northampton 620333.
