A woman was rescued from the River Nene in Northampton by firefighters after her shouts for help were heard by two men.
The emergency services were called just before 4am on Monday when cries for help were heard by two passers by off Towcester Road, near the Carlsberg Factory.
Pc Dave Lee, of Northamptonshire Police, said on Twitter that the woman had no idea how she ended up in the water.
He said: “Two passing males heard her shouting for help. Apparently she had been in the water for quite a while.”
Two firefighters specialising in water rescue entered the water and led the woman to safety.
A fire service spokesman said: “We were called to reports of a person in the River Nene at Towcester Road, Northampton.
“One appliance from The Mounts, one appliance from Moulton, one appliance from Mereway, the specialist technical rescue unit and a boat rescue unit, also from Mereway, attended this incident.
“Two firefighters specialising in water rescue entered the river wearing dry suits and led the person to safety, who was then left in care of the ambulance service.
“Throw lines and ladders were also used at this incident.”
