A 30-year-old woman who has lost five-and-a-half stone in the past year is planning to abseil down the National Lift Tower in Northampton to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Katie Marks, aged 30, would not have been able to complete the abseil previously because of the weight restriction, but will now be able to take part in the daunting challenge on July 5.

Mrs Marks, of Towcester, was inspired to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust as she has a friend who has three year-old daughter, Amelia, with cystic fibrosis.

She said: “I don’t see what I am doing as brave because all the people with cystic fibrosis have to be brave every single day of their lives and have no choice. I do have a choice to do this, and if this small thing can help, then I am proud to be a part of it.

“My main reason for doing this is for Amelia, but I also have other friends with children who suffer from cystic fibrosis. I am doing the abseil for all those affected by it. I lost the eight stone for personal reasons, but this has given me the chance to give something back. Every little counts.”
