Woman and three sons rescued from car ‘hanging off bridge’ in Northamptonshire

A woman and her three children had to be rescued after part of her car was left hanging off a bridge in Northamptonshire.

Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service said they were called just befor 4pm on Wednesday to Blakesley Road in Abthorpe where a car had veered off the road.

Three fire crews arrived to find a car hanging off a bridge, with water flowing underneath.

Using an extendable ladder and armed with life jackets just in case, they got the woman driver and her three sons to safety.

The rescue took about 20 minutes and all four were left in the care of the ambulance service with minor injuries.
