Warning over landscapes and wildlife in Northamptonshire
A report issued today by Natural England has a warning for authorities in Northamptonshire about the state of landscapes and wildlife across the county.
The first annual State of the Natural Environment report, which assesses environmental diversity, concluded that more needs to be done to tackle the pressures of development and climate change.
Natural England's East Midlands spokeswoman Maddy Jago said as one of the fastest developing regions in the country, the county was under more pressure to protect the environment.
She said: "This report presents evidence of the current situation in Northamptonshire, now we need to work with our partners to make sure we can change things where we need to, for the sake of future generations.
"The way things are going, we are in real danger of losing some of our precious wildlife altogether. We need to act together, and act now."
The report provided mapping and variation of green spaces, and Natural England vowed to work with farmers in the region to help protect the future of wildlife.
Mrs Jago added: "There is some good news. We have been working to ensure that the condition of our sites which are special for wildlife, rocks and grasslands have improved significantly, and the region now has the highest percentage area of such land in target condition in England."
