A couple walked into the Stags Head in Maidwell yesterday afternoon (Thursday) after being involved in a plane crash.

The man and woman were involved in a light aircraft crash in Macmillan Way, Maidwell yesterday at around 4.20pm.

Northamptonshire Police described the couple as ‘walking wounded’ with no serious injuries.

Police, ambulance and fire brigade were all called to the scene in the village.

An off-duty police officer assisted the couple at the Stags Head, as well as staff at the pub.

Rob Willoughby, landlord of The Stag’s Head, said: “The couple were both very shook up when they came into the pub.

“The light aircraft came down near Dale Farm to the back of us. I don’t know if they got into difficulties and then landed at the nearest available site.

“They came here as it was the nearest point of contact and my staff looked after them. It is not an everyday occurrence in the village.”

Investigations into the crash have begun, according to Northamptonshire Police.
