Volunteer is off for year in Ethiopia
A Northampton man is preparing to move to Ethiopia for a year to volunteer as an IT teacher.
Alex Little, aged 34, from Dallington, will leave at the beginning of September when he will take a post at Mekelle University in conjunction with development agency VSO.
He said: "I've been working in the IT Department at the Open University in Milton Keynes for seven years and the work I do in Ethiopia will be along the same lines as what I do now, though I can't be totally sure until I get there and see the resources.
"I am in touch with a member of staff there but their internet and power supply is quite unreliable. I don't know how it will work teaching IT with no power.
"But the culture is going to be more challenging than the work itself as the work is going to be very similar to what I do now."
He added: "I'm more excited than nervous. The more I find out the more I look forward to it."
